And I learned this as a younger man
And I wondered "Where is God?"
That's when I heard my mother pray
It was a sound like nothing else in the world
It was a sound that reaches deep inside
And I knew once I heard it
There could be no doubt
Someone was listening...
~Rob Mathes, My Mother's Prayer
Hudson loses his mom when he's around ten years old. It's a huge blow to their little family, crippling his father with grief and saddling him with loneliness. It forces a wedge in between Hudson and Timothy, keeping their relationship strained over the years, as they each process her death in different ways. While Timothy tries to shut up any memories of Josephine for fear of ripping open old scars, Hudson wants nothing more than to remember her. And where his father may have struggled to show him the love and support he needed, his mother was always proud of him as he grew. She prayed he would become a strong, smart, and faithful young man - and this image hit me of Josie (and Hudson) having the chance to see just how her prayers have been answered.
