"Hey Chris: A Tribute to Chris Rainbow"

Jill D'Entremont, feat. Chris Rainbow

"Middleman" backing track (including some vocals) by Chris Rainbow
"Hey Chris" lyrics, melody, vocals & animation by Jill D'Entremont

When I first heard your voice in a song
I was drawn by its harmony
Something familiar and something so strong
And something completely unique

Carry the song on an ocean wave
Or a bluebird that flies on the breeze
The ring of the phone in the home of the brave
Is enough to bring me to my knees

Ooh, the rainbow of vocal tone
A contrail to take me home
A feeling I make my own
Ooh, the colors that I can see
The beautiful harmony
It's left your song in me

Capturing moments and setting them free
In the notes of a single song
Trav'lling to places that I've never seen
And a new path to journey upon

So carry the song on the roll of the dice
Or twin stars set aglow in the night
Look over my shoulder for longer goodbye's
Or a friendly card turning me right

Ooh, the rainbow of vocal tone
A contrail to take me home
A feeling I make my own
Ooh, the harmonies that you bring
I hear them ring
Hey Chris, I really love to hear you sing!

Letting it ring
Hey Chris, I really love to hear you sing!

I couldn't say why you and I...

In tribute and in memory of Chris Rainbow, who passed away in 2015. You were one of the biggest reasons I started singing, and I am thankful for the melodies you left behind. This is the closest I can get to a duet, and I am thankful for that too 😊

"Hey Chris" came about in 2014 when I purchased Chris' "Waves" album - a collection of demos, backing tracks, and alternate versions. One of the backing tracks, "Middleman" was one I had never heard... so I took the opportunity to write my own lyrics and melody before I heard Chris' version. Thus, "Hey Chris" was born. After all, Chris wrote a song called "Dear Brian" about Brian Wilson of The Beach Boys - his musical inspiration - so why not write one about mine?

I had started this music video almost.... 5 years ago? So I kicked myself into gear and got it finished, and now, at last, this song is *finally* "finished" and on YouTube.

Video clips of Chris Rainbow are from his "Ring Ring" video, recorded June 6, 1979 on "Top Pop" by AVROTROS Broadcasting. Video clips of Jill D'Entremont are recorded by Sean D'Entremont.
