"Hey Chris: A Tribute to Chris Rainbow"

Jill D'Entremont

Original backing track "Middleman" by Chris Rainbow
Vocals & Lyrics by Jill ("Ace" Singletary) D'Entremont

When I first heard your voice in a song
I was drawn by its harmony
Something familiar and something so strong
And something completely unique

Carry the song on an ocean wave
Or a bluebird that flies on the breeze
The ring of the phone in the home of the brave
Is enough to bring me to my knees

Ooh, the rainbow of vocal tone
A contrail to take me home
A feeling I make my own
Ooh, the colors that I can see
The beautiful harmony
It's left your song in me

Capturing moments and setting them free
In the notes of a single song
Trav'lling to places that I've never seen
And a new path to journey upon

So carry the song on the roll of the dice
Or twin stars set aglow in the night
Look over my shoulder for longer goodbye's
Or a friendly card turning me right

Ooh, the rainbow of vocal tone
A contrail to take me home
A feeling I make my own
Ooh, the harmonies that you bring
I hear them ring
Hey Chris, I really love to hear you sing!

Letting it ring
Hey Chris, I really love to hear you sing!

I couldn't say why you and I...

I came across the backing track to Chris Rainbow's "Middleman" before I had heard the full song (with vocals). This gave me an idea to write my own melody/lyrics to the backing track, and then see how different it ended up from the actual song. As I began to write, it turned into a tribute to Chris Rainbow himself. Chris has been one of the biggest musical inspriations to me, and I hope this humble tribute conveys even the smallest bit of my gratitute.
